Cybersecurity Awareness Month Spotlight: Nicolas Keller, Senior Product Manager for Cloud Security Technologies
When thinking about cybersecurity, what comes to mind for you? Viruses? Ransomware? Phishing? Us too, along with the new threats that emerge daily.
The cybersecurity world is one of many roles and responsibilities that come together to keep the digital world safer from cyber threats. Professionals in threat research, threat detection, incident response, and software development play pivotal roles in the development of cybersecurity solutions. And so does sales, HR, services and support, marketing, the executive suite, and more. In other words, no matter your passion, there are many ways you might see yourself in a cybersecurity career.
For Cybersecurity Awareness Month, I’m interviewing a few Fidelis Cybersecurity professionals about their chosen paths and what keeps them passionate in the fight against cyber adversaries.
Meet Nicolas Keller, Senior Product Manager for Cloud Security Technologies
Shanan Winters: How or why did you start working in cybersecurity?
Nicolas Keller: I care about privacy. There is so much personal and proprietary information stored on networks and in the cloud. The first step toward better privacy is to ensure our digital world is safe, and that’s what a career in cybersecurity gives me: an opportunity to be part of the privacy solution.
SW: What excites you about cybersecurity?
NK: The security landscape is constantly evolving as new technologies arise and bad actors try new methods. Our work is never done, and we’re always challenged with staying a step ahead of cyber adversaries.
SW: What advice would you have for someone considering working in the field?
NK: Embrace change. It is the only constant in cybersecurity. 😊 Be ready to adapt as the field changes. Or better yet, challenge yourself to stay one step ahead of cyber adversaries!
SW: What do you love about working at Fidelis?
NK: So many bright and dedicated folks! I’ve only recently started here and have found my new team to be not just knowledgeable about their own areas of expertise, but passionate about creating holistic and proactive solutions that keep our customers’ environments safe.
SW: What is something you want everyone to know about a cybersecurity career?
NK: Always be ready to learn and adapt. What you learn today might not be applicable tomorrow. You have to stay curious and focused.
SW: What advice do you share with just about anyone when it comes to their personal cybersecurity?
NK: Always lock your phone and laptop when you’re away for any amount of time. And always install all updates right away!
